The sky's the limit

Something unusual that day(part 2/5)

How many people would give up their seats on a crowded bus to the elderly or pregnant? Not many of us would do that, I am sure. We would just look down at the floor and act like nothing was wrong. However, there is still some who are compassionate and let the needy rest their legs. I witnessed one of these acts while I was on the bus home, after school that day.
It was yesterday, when I was returning home after staying back for my main co-curriculum activity (CCA), library, that I saw it. I was on the bus no. 53, which was one of the new buses with more space for standing and for the disabled. It had air-conditioner too. The bus was quite crowded then. I boarded the bus and had no place to sit, so I stood instead. When an elderly woman entered the bus, a woman in her mid-30s gave up her seat and invited the elderly woman to sit down. She refused to do so but the woman was insistent and did not return to her seat, carrying on standing. Eventually, the elderly woman sat down.
This little act is insignificant to some people, however I feel that Singaporeans should practice more of this. While I was there, only 1 of the many there did so. The others just sat there and did nothing despite them sitting on the yellow seats which are reserved for the people such as the elderly woman. A little kindness can go a long way. We should help others, as we are all human beings. If we do not help each other, who will help us? Who knows, maybe you may even benefit in one way or another just for doing a thing as simple as donating one dollar to charity. I hope after reading this, you will help in spreading happiness throughout the world. A simple thing to start with can be to help the people affected by the Haiti earthquake.
